Kevin Feige Talks The Future Of Spider-Man In The MCU, Joss Whedon’s ‘Batgirl’, And R-Rated Marvel Movies

With Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 opening in a week, the press junkets are in full swing, which means there will be an endless amount of updates regarding the future of other Marvel movies. During an interview with THR Marvel President Kevin Feige opened up on the future of Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man. Feige confirmed that the web slinger will be in the yet untitled Avengers 4, as well as Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man:Homecoming sequel due in 2019.

Feige said that due to the negotiation between the two studios, “That’s as far as it goes for now” which producer Amy Pascal also confirmed earlier this month.

During the interview Feige also commented on Marvel Alum Joss Whedon, and how he feels about Whedon directing the recently announced Batgirl for Warner Bros. and DC.

He called a couple months ago, which he didn’t have to do and was super cool of him and super nice of him, and we couldn’t be more supportive. We want to see a Joss Whedon Batgirl film be awesome.”

It’s a sigh of relief that there is no bad blood between the two, as Whedon has helped shape and mould the MCU to what it is today. It’s also a true testament on how much Whedon respects Feige by giving him a heads up and courtesy call. Hats off to you Joss.

Additionally, Feige also offered up his stance on an R-Rated Marvel Movie, given the success Fox has had with Deadpool and Logan.

My takeaway from both of those films is not the R rating, its the risk they took, the chances they took, the creative boundaries that they pushed. That should be the takeaway for everyone.”

It’s no surprise that Marvel Studios will not be making their way into R-rated territory, seeing as Marvel is owned by Disney.
