Universal has dropped the beat and released the first trailer for the aca-threequel Pitch Perfect 3. Check it out in the header above.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Now graduated from college and out in the real world where it takes more than a cappella to get by, the Bellas return in Pitch Perfect 3, the next chapter in the beloved series that has taken in more than $400 million at the global box office.
After the highs of winning the World Championships, the Bellas find themselves split apart and discovering there aren’t job prospects for making music with your mouth. But when they get the chance to reunite for an overseas USO tour, this group of awesome nerds will come together to make some music, and some questionable decisions, one last time.
So the Bellas are back again, and I can’t say I’m surprised. The first movie was an unexpected gem, and while Pitch Perfect 2 repeated the track with mixed results, it was a monster hit when released in 2015, so a third go round of aca-antics was assured. This one is being billed as the “last call”, so I hope that they do stop it here. The USO tour idea seems like a bit of a rehash of the 2nd movie, so I’m not sure there much to sustain a Pitch Perfect 4.The cast is what will carry this one through, and Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, and the rest of the Bellas return, along with Elizabeth Banks and John Michael Higgins as the hilariously blunt commentators. As for the various glimpses of explosions and fighting, they hint at something else going on in the background, but we’ll have to wait for the next trailer to get a better idea I guess. Until then, you’ll just have to spin the soundtracks for the first two films, and wonder what mash-ups they’ve got in store for us when it’s released at the end of the year.
PITCH PERFECT 3 takes the stage December 22 in the US, and January 4 in Australia.
