YOUNG HAN SOLO HAS OFFICIALLY BEEN CAST

Following widespread speculation (including from yours truly) the world’s longest casting process has finally come to an end, with Alden Ehrenreich today confirmed as young Han Solo in the upcoming Star Wars spin off film. The news comes as co-director Chris Miller celebrated May the 4th by tweeting the first official image for the film.

We already knew Ehrenreich was a pretty sure thing a few weeks ago when he was named as the new front runner for the role, beating off tough competition from the likes of Jack Reyner and Taron Edgerton. But it appears Ehrenreich’s chances were boosted considerably by his scene stealing performance in the Coen’s Hail, Ceaser!maxresdefaultI’m sure a large contingent of film fans are still in denial that this film is even being made, let alone who plays the title character, but I’m struggling to think of a better choice Disney could of made. At the end of the day, noone is going to surpass Ford’s iconic performance, but if Ehrenreich can bring his own brand of swagger to the role while staying true to the character, he’ll win over a lot of new fans and earn his place in movie history.

Han Solo: A Star Wars Story is scheduled for release in 2018
