‘X-Force’ On The Way, Drew Goddard Set To Direct

Fox has drafted in The Cabin In The Woods director Drew Goddard to lead their X-Men universe pic X-Force. Goddard will write and direct the film that revolves around Deadpool and Cable leading basically the Black-Ops version of the X-Men, and with Deadpool involved, you just know they’re not going to be your average do-gooders. Ryan Reynolds is on board and will obviously be the centrepiece, and will also be producing with long-time X-Men producers Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner. I’m not familiar with the X-Force myself, but anything that gives me more of Reynold’s Merc With A Mouth is gold by me.drew goddard

Goddard has been waiting for a while to step up into the big leagues as a director. He’s well known as a screenwriter, having written The Martian (which he was originally supposed to direct), World War Z and Cloverfield. He was supposed to take on the writer/director duties on another franchise pic, Sony’s The Sinister Six, but that pic fell down the development hole when Marvel came back into the fold to do Spider-Man right. He is directing Bad Times at the El Royale with Chris Hemsworth and Jeff Bridges next, but has apparently already started on the script and X-Force will be his very next project when he is finished on that one.

Fox is pushing ahead full-force with its X-Men universe, trying to diversify out from the original (and some would say tired) franchise. X-Men: New Mutants is the first cab off the rank directed by The Fault in Our Stars helmer Josh Boone for an April 2018 release. David Leitch’s Deadpool 2 follows quickly on its heels in June, and the company will bookend the bacchanalia of mutants in November with original series in the Kinberg-directed X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

That’s just about all the X-Men you can handle for one year! What are your thoughts on X-Force? Let us know what you think in the comments below or on Facebook!
