With so much grabbing for your attention and dollars these days, it’s easy to miss when the latest releases are heading to a cinema near you. So come back every week as we here at So, Is It Any Good? preview the big new releases hitting screens.
Up this weekend, two different sized heroes, as Tom Cruise battles an international spy ring, and Max takes on terrorists in Afghanistan.
Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation
Starring: Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, Jeremy Renner, Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames, Alec Baldwin
Synopsis: Ethan and team take on their most impossible mission yet, eradicating the Syndicate – an International rogue organization as highly skilled as they are, committed to destroying the IMF.
Why you should be interested: One of the more enduring action franchises, the 5th in the series continues the globe-trotting adventures with the same over-the-top spectacle and fun, twisting narrative as previous installments. So if you liked it’s predecessors, odds are you’ll enjoy this one. You’ll have a good time at the cinema, trust me.
Who should see it: Those that accept an impossible mission, Cruise-rs (is that what his fanbase is called?), action fans
Starring: Thomas Hayden Church, Lauren Graham, Josh Wiggins
Synopsis: A dog that helped US Marines in Afghanistan returns to the U.S. and is adopted by his handler’s family after suffering a traumatic experience.
Why you should be interested: This looks like a strange mix of rah-rah American heroism, feel-good family-and-it’s-dog story and most strangely, action thriller at the end. The trailer is tonally all over the place, and probably gives away the big plot twist in the last third. I feel like I’ve already seen the movie by watching it, so you probably have to. If you happen to stumble upon a session, and enjoy dog movies, then maybe it’s worth your $20. I’ll pass though…
Who should see it: Dog lovers, Marley And Me fans (probably the same group of people in all honesty).
