DRAZ’S VERDICT

SCOTT’S VERDICT

Trailer:

Why you should care: The 15th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes bearing the weight of expectations. The first film was something you don’t often get in blockbusters, a surprise. Funny, action-packed and with a great cast of characters led by the charismatic Chris Pratt, Guardians was a nice change of pace for the MCU and understandably did big business because of it. The sequel aims to hit those heights once again, whilst also deepening the story of Star-Lord, Gamora and the gang. Will it achieve the impossible and be a sequel worth the money? The reviews (including our own) seem to say so!

Who should see it: Guardians groupies

Free Fire

Rating: MA15+

Starring: Armie Hammer, Sharlto Copley, Brie Larson, Cillian Murphy

Synopsis: Set in Boston in 1978, a meeting in a deserted warehouse between two gangs turns into a shootout and a game of survival.

BEN’S VERDICT

Trailer:

Why you should care: Can such a simple premise sustain a whole movie? Our reviewer Ben seems to think so! If you’ve ever wondered why action movies can’t just dispense with the boring setup parts and go straight into the non-stop action, then this is the film for you. A great cast is going to keep this chugging along nicely, as well as a good sense of humour and lashings of violence. A great time at the movies is assured, action fans.

Who should see it: Shootout connoisseurs

Rules Don’t Apply

Rating: M

Starring: Warren Beatty, Lily Collins, Alden Ehrenreich, Annette Benning, Matthew Broderick

Synopsis: An unconventional love story of an aspiring actress, her determined driver, and the eccentric billionaire who they work for.

Trailer:

Why you should care: There’s something about this that just doesn’t connect with me. It comes across a little staged and old school, but not in a good way. It seems like a passion project that miraculously got an a amazing cast on board but doesn’t give them anything to do. It came out at the end of last year in the States, so it’s not a good sign that we’re getting it almost 5 months later. If you want to see future Han Solo Alden Ehrenreich in action though, you might want to check this out.

Who should see it: Hopeless romantics
