Watchmen Series Not Sticking To The Graphic Novel

HBO has made an announcement on the future of The Watchmen TV series, revealing its plans for the series. According to IGN, HBO president Casey Bloys has signaled that new content may be created for the adaptation. With Damon Lindelof at the helm, it seems HBO is hoping The Watchmen will be an ‘ongoing series’, which indicates the hope for at least two seasons. It appears with the recent blowback for a confederacy series HBO may be using Alan Moore‘s beloved work to compensate for the eventual end of Game Of Thrones.

Bloys stated the following to IGN:

“I don’t want to talk too much about it, but Damon is thinking about it in a way exactly as you describe it. Which is, how do you take the material and derive from it a TV show, without making it a literal translation?”

Previous attempts to adapt the graphic novel grappled with loyalty issues. Written by the acclaimed Moore, with art by Dave Gibbons, it is feverishly loved and famous for its complex themes and storytelling. The Before Watchmen was a DC Comics attempt at filling in the past, but the question is will the new iteration cover the previous Minutemen or be completely original? One thing is certain, Alan Moore will be displeased. DC and others have been notorious for going against Moore’s wishes for the story to remain a comic. Stay tuned.
