With so much grabbing for your attention and dollars these days, it’s easy to miss when the latest releases are heading to a cinema near you. So come back every week as we here at So, Is It Any Good? preview the new movies hitting screens, and give you the lowdown on what to watch this weekend.

This weekend, be a guest for the live-action adaptation of Beauty And The Beast, go go with the Power Rangers, search for Life in outer space, and get down to business with The Boss Baby.

Here’s what to watch!

Beauty And The Beast

Rating: PG

Starring: Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Ewan McGregor, Ian McKellan

Synopsis: An adaptation of the classic fairy-tale about a monstrous prince and a young woman who fall in love.

Trailer:

Why you should care: Like it or hate it, Disney is rebooting our childhoods in live-action. After The Jungle Book impressed, and made almost a billion dollars, there’s no way this doesn’t follow suit and probably go even higher. Reviews have been glowing, and our reviewer Ryan was swept up in the magic as well. It’s a tale as old as time, but this one is timeless.

Who should see it: Disney devotees, families, and musical lovers.

Power Rangers

Rating: M

Starring: Bryan Cranston, Dacre Montgomery, Elizabeth Banks

Synopsis: A group of high-school kids, who are infused with unique superpowers, harness their abilities in order to save the world.

OUR VERDICT

Trailer:

Why you should care: Caught somewhere between dark and gritty origin story and campy fun teen action pic, Power Rangers is likely to divide opinion, probably based on whether you were a fan of the original or not. Our reviewers enjoyed their time with the Rangers, so it’s likely that if you have fond memories of the 90’s staple, you’ll get a kick out of this one too.

Who should see it: The Mighty Morphin among us

Life

Rating: MA15+

Starring: Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson, Ryan Reynolds

Synopsis: Astronauts (Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson, Ryan Reynolds) aboard the International Space Station are on the cutting edge of one of the most important discoveries in human history: the first evidence of extraterrestrial life on Mars. As members of the crew conduct their research, the rapidly evolving life-form proves far more intelligent and terrifying than anyone could have imagined.

OUR VERDICT

Trailer:

Why you should care: If it looks and sounds like an Alien ripoff, is it an Alien ripoff? Our reviewer Rochelle certainly thought so. With Alien: Convenant on the horizon, it hardly seems necessary to fill your movie plate with this reheated nonsense, but if you’re really itching for a space scare this weekend… hey, at least the cast is good right?

Who should see it: Those who just can’t wait for the next Alien

The Boss Baby

Rating: G

Starring: Alec Baldwin, Steve Buscemi, Lisa Kudrow

Synopsis: A suit-wearing briefcase-carrying baby pairs up with his seven-year old brother to stop the dastardly plot of the CEO of Puppy Co.

Trailer:

Why you should care: Could anyone else but Alec Baldwin voice a suit-wearing baby? This is definitely one for the kids, but probably also one that the parents will get a chuckle or too out of.

Who should see it: Siblings
