This weekend, a pair of sequels vie for your time, with kid friendly TMNT: Out Of The Shadows and the decidedly non-kid friendly The Conjuring 2 unleashing into theatres.

Why you should care: I’m still not on board with CGI turtles, but the first reboot movie was a pleasant, if pretty forgettable diversion. It made a surprising amount of money too, so we’ve got this sequel that is hitting the bigger = better button… hard. In addition to Shredder, we have Beebop and Rocksteady (two fan favourites), the return of Casey Jones (my personal favourite from the original movies), and the most evil alien brain to ever try to take over the world, Krang! They’re trying to hit us right in the nostalgia, down to the use of “Tricky” in the trailer, but make no mistake this movie is definitely aimed at the youngsters. If you have the Turtle Power, go in with low expectations and you might be pleasantly surprised.

Who should see it: Heroes in a half shell

The Conjuring 2

Conjuring2PosterRating: MA15+

Starring: Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Franka Potente

Synopsis: Lorraine and Ed Warren travel to north London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by malicious spirits.

OUR VERDICT

Trailer:

Why you should care: Nope nope nope nope. The Conjuring was a massive success back in 2013, so a sequel was a no-brainer. The good thing about possession/hauntings is that there is a large well of stories to draw from, so even though this features the same characters, it’s a completely different story… and it looks like a doozy. Horror fans will eat this up, and I was fine until the creepy nun showed up. Now if you’ll excuse me I have to rock back and forth in a corner crying for a while.

Who should see it: Thrill seekers
