Why you should care: Get ready to be transported back to high school, and all the social anxiety that entails. The story of two best friends who’s relationship is tested when one starts dating the other’s brother, this dramedy looks to pack some serious funny along with its heart. This is one that could ring so true it hurts.

Who should see it: The young, and young at heart


Assassin’s Creed

Rating: M

Starring: Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons

Synopsis: When Callum Lynch explores the memories of his ancestor Aguilar and gains the skills of a Master Assassin, he discovers he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society.

Why you should care: Cure the pains caused by your New Years Eve bender with a bit of Fassbender. The beloved Brit joins the gaming genre in the big screen adaptation of the blockbuster Assassin’s Creed franchise. Video game movies are hit and miss generally, but the concept is intriguing and the cast is great (Jeremy Irons, Marion Cotillard)… could this be the best videogame adaptation yet?

Who should see it: Those in the mood for some killer action


Passengers

Rating: M

Starring: Jennifer Lawrence, Chris Pratt

Synopsis: A spacecraft traveling to a distant colony planet and transporting thousands of people has a malfunction in its sleep chambers. As a result, two passengers are awakened 60 years early.

Why you should care: The New Years Day double also contains two of the biggest movie stars on the planet, Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt. If romance is your bag, and space is the final frontier you’re interested in, this will be catnip to you. Swoon-worthy moments combine with big budget action in this story of two intergalactic passengers woken 60 years too early. This will live or die on the chemistry between the leads, but if they’re on their game, this will be one pleasant flight.
