War For The Planet Of The Apes – Movie Review

APE-POCALYPSE now! We checked out the third film in the rebooted Apes franchise, War For The Planet Of The Apes. So, Is It Any Good?

War Of The Planet Of The Apes, once again based on the 1968 classic Planet Of The Apes, finishes the trilogy on a rollercoaster ride of high-octane action, raw emotion, and bare knuckle combat. Being a fan of the original movies and the prequels, I went into War with high expectations. Could they finish off this epic franchise in style, and oh how they didn’t disappoint! Two years after the events of Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, Caesar (Andy Serkis) and his colony of intelligent apes are still feeling the aftermath of Koba’s (Toby Kebbell) betrayal, and are evading the last of humanity’s armed forces bent on exterminating the apes. After a chain of events, Caesar is drawn back into an all out War with the ruthless Col. McCullough (Woody Harrelson). He plans on making one final stand against the enhanced apes in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both ape, humankind and the future of Earth.

The visual effects & CGI characters in this film are truly breathtaking. Within a few minutes, I forgot that I was watching a film populated with talking apes. Serkis embodies the role of Caesar with such heart and bravado he deserves to be finally nominated for an Oscar for his work! There is much to admire about this film, and even more to enjoy. You definitely go through a range of emotions, and I’m glad I was sitting well away from other patrons when I got choked up and the tears started to flow. The whole movie you’re fighting alongside the apes and not for a one minute do you sympathize with the humans. In the end, War For The Planet Of The Apes will rank as my favorite entry in the rebooted series. War is a rewarding journey that has incredible character development, mind-blowing CGI, brutal action, and a story that pulls on every heart-string you have. Director Matt Reeves finishes this trilogy with a boom as War For The Planet Of The Apes is not only one of the best films this winter, it’s one of the best films of the year period.

WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES is in cinemas now.
