Sony Announces Venom Movie for 2018 Release

Completely out of nowhere, Sony Pictures have announced a Venom movie to be released in October of 2018.

Dante Harper has written a script for Venom who previously wrote the screenplay for the upcoming Alien: Covenant. No word on who is set to direct just yet.

The character of Venom was previously seen in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 where he was seemingly shoehorned into the film, portrayed by the odd choice of Topher Grace.

The movie (and the release date of next year) should be taken with a grain of salt as this is the same movie studio that previously had plans for a Venom movie. Not to mention one featuring a female Spider-Man, an Aunt May spin-off, the Sinister Six, and Amazing Spider-Man 3.

We can assume that this Venom film will be a stand-alone entry and will not be integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite the rights deal that was finally settled to allow Tom Holland’s Spider-Man to appear in Captain America: Civil War, expect Sony to keep at least some of their toys to themselves.

So which incarnation of Venom would you like to see; the traditional Eddie Brock Venom or (fingers crossed) Agent Venom/Flash Thompson? Who should play him? What villains should he go up against? Personally I’d love to see Carnage get the big screen treatment.

Is Venom going to actually work? Will it meet that release date? Is Life secretly a Venom prequel? Sound off in the comments below and on Facebook.
