A few weeks ago Warner Bros dropped the “Red Band” trailer for their Vacation reboot/continuation starring Ed Helms as the grown-up Rusty and Christina Applegate as his wife. With some nice nods to the series’ legacy and a healthy slather of raunch, it definitely piqued my interest. Check it out if you haven’t seen it:
Now Warners has dropped the first official trailer for the film, which gives much of the same vibes, just without the extended Chris Hemsworth dick joke:
I think the Red Band trailer probably sets the story up better, but the new trailer definitely has it’s moments. Colour me interested, and carefully optimistic, that this can at least approach the brilliance of the original.
Here’s the official synopsis:
The next generation of Griswold’s is at it again. New Line Cinema’s Vacation, starring Ed Helms (The Hangover films) and Christina Applegate (the Anchorman films), takes the family on the road for another ill-fated adventure.
Following in his father’s footsteps and hoping for some much-needed family bonding, a grown-up Rusty Griswold (Helms) surprises his wife, Debbie (Applegate), and their two sons with a cross-country trip back to America’s “favourite family fun park,” Walley World.
Rounding out the cast are Leslie Mann (The Other Woman) as Rusty’s sister, Audrey; Chris Hemsworth (the Thor/Avengers films) in the role of Stone Crandall, Rusty’s irritatingly successful brother-in-law; and Skyler Gisondo (Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, Hard Sell) and Steele Stebbins (A Haunted House 2), who play Rusty’s sons, James and Kevin. Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo reprise their roles as Clark and Ellen Griswold from the classic Vacation comedies.
The film marks Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley’s directorial debut. Goldstein & Daley (Horrible Bosses, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2) wrote the script, based on characters created by John Hughes.
VACATION opens in Australia on August 20th.
