Halloween, the only time of year when you have to disconnect your doorbell and turn all the lights off at the front of the house so the kids in the street don’t know you’re home. When the kids gleefully bellow ‘trick or treat!’ and when you say, ‘trick’ they look at you like you’ve just taken a shit in their basket. When answering the door to kids dressed as Leatherface while revving up a chainsaw, to your own surprise, puts you on the neighbourhood watch list.
Well, if like me, you enjoy the fundamentals of Halloween but you think kids ruin it then switch off all your lights, disconnect that doorbell and settle down to a good ol’ fashioned horror-fest. And I just so happen to have a nice, little list of my top five horror movies on Netflix you can sink your teeth into.
1922
Brand new to Netflix, Thomas Jane plays a simple farmer who conspires to kill his wife for financial gain. Something we’ve all probably thought about from time to time – I’m kidding.. Or am I?
Friday the 13th: Part V
You can’t beat a classic horror and nobody does it better than Jason Voorhees. Probably not the most accessible of the franchise but if you want mindless carnage then here’s where it’s at. Plus, it has a bit of Corey Feldman before he got weird.
The Babysitter
Also new to Netflix is this very sexy, horror comedy starring Aussie actress Samara Weaving. Not only that, it co-stars Ken Marino, Robbie Amell and Bella Thorne. And if Thorne’s acting doesn’t scare the shit out of you then I don’t know what does.
The Wailing
Everybody loves a Japanese-head-scratcher. Renown for their brilliant take on the genre, The Wailing doesn’t disappoint. That is, if you can work out what on earth is going on. The scary parts are intense, though.
Let the Right One In
The original Swedish vampire flick is still just as ominous the second time around. That’s not to say that Matt Reeves Americanised remake isn’t as good, just the originals are always better – a topic for another article, perhaps. Anyway, both can be found on Netflix so watch them both and let us know what you think.
