Three New TV Spots Give Another Glimpse Of ‘The Dark Tower’

It seems hard to believe, but we’re only a couple months out from the long-delayed release of The Dark Tower, based on the novel series by Stephen King. It’s hard to believe, a) because after being in development for so long with so many different incarnations, it felt like it would never make it to the screen and b) because even though it opens in August, we only got the first trailer a couple of weeks ago! In an age where the marketing machine starts up to a year out from release (hello Star Wars), it’s odd that a movie that is supposed to be setting up a big franchise for Sony/Columbia is taking it’s sweet time to get noticed by the general public.

That changes a little, with the new release of three TV spots, focusing on different elements of the story:

It’s still hard to get a grasp on what the story for this will be. It’s not a direct adaptation of the first of King’s Dark Tower novels – The Gunslinger – but there are elements of it in there, so I don’t know if they’re remixing a couple of the novels together or what. In any case, Idris Elba makes for an intriguing action hero, the action scenes look pretty cool, and Matthew McConaughey looks to be relishing his evil turn.

We’ll see how good THE DARK TOWER really is when it hits theatres August 17.
