This looks fun. I love how much thought has gone into bringing these arcade characters to life. While the featurette might show a little too much for my liking, it’s peaked my interest in this movie. Man that single shot of how they have recreated Donkey Kong and his realm, that is cool, gimme more of that. I like the idea that the characters are coming into our world but I think I love the idea that we have a chance to go into their world too. Kind of wish they had kept that aspect secret.
Chris Columbus has been slightly off in recent years, it’s good to see him in the directors chair for a much higher profile movie. His name was attached to some of my favourite comedies as a kid, movies like Home Alone and Mrs. Doubtfire, he should be right at home with this nostalgic comedy.

In Pixels, when intergalactic aliens misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them, they attack the Earth, using the games as models for their various assaults. President Will Cooper, has to call on his childhood best friend, ’80s video game champion Sam Brenner, now a home theater installer, to lead a team of old-school arcaders to defeat the aliens and save the planet. Joining them is Lt. Col. Violet Van Patten, a specialist supplying the arcaders with unique weapons to fight the aliens.
