The Rock Gets Animated In The New Trailer For ‘Moana’

Disney has dropped the first full-length trailer for their latest animated soon-to-be-juggernaut Moana, and it promises much of what their Animation Studios (i.e. not Pixar) is known for; bright colours, magic and distinct characters. Check it out above!

Moana follows the titular character (newcomer Auli’i Cravalho) as she goes on a quest to find the demi-god Maui (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) and save her people. Together, the two unlikely allies will sail across the ocean against impossible odds to finish their quest and ultimately find themselves along the way.moana-movieThis film marks the return of filmmaking team Ron Clements and John Musker (The Little MermaidAladdin) and boasts songs by Broadway powerhouse Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton), so they’re definitely on the right track. The trailer itself includes some great interplay between the characters, a nice sense of humour, weird coconut people and a scene-stealing chicken, so no complaints there. Moana herself seems like a strong and surprising character in her own right and looks to add to the roster of strong female characters that Disney has developed. Will it reach the Oscar winning heights of Frozen and Big Hero 6? You’ll have to wait till Christmas to unwrap it and find out!

MOANA sails into theatres on Boxing Day.
