So Good News: Wonder Woman, The Last Jedi, Bumblebee

The world of movie news moves at lightspeed some days, so it’s hard to keep up with everything (even for those of us that run an entertainment blog). So welcome to your daily news briefing here at So, Is It Any Good? where we round up the breaking stories you might have missed.

What the?!?

Wonder Woman has been banned in Lebanon, because of the fact that star Gal Gadot served in the Israeli army. I guess it’s not just the internet trolls that can get upset with you for casting choices now!

Casting Couch

Universal wants Dwayne Johnson to star in their Dark Universe pic The Wolfman. That brings his grand total of projects in development to 4,000.

Tom Holland has shared his dream casting for the role of Sully in the just announced Uncharted prequel movie, and his pick is a pretty intriguing thought.Fox‘s New Mutants is filling out the cast thick and fast with up-and-comers. The latest recruits are Henry Zaga (13 Reasons Why) as Sunspot and Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things) as Cannonball.

Joel David Moore has signed on to reprise his role as Norm Spellman in Avatar 2. He joins previously announced cast members Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, and Sigourney Weaver in James Cameron’s long-gestating sequel.

Michelle Williams joins the Amy Schumer empowerment comedy I Feel Pretty, where she’ll play a cosmetics company CEO. It’s a bit a different, lighter tact for the 4-time Oscar nominee whose known for her indie drama cred (and will forever be Dawson’s Creek’s Jen).

Another Oscar nominee, Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit, Pitch Perfect 3) is in talks to board the Transformers spin-off Bumblebee. From the Edge Of Seventeen to the Edge Of Bayhem.

Gettin’ Rebooted

Frank Miller‘s Sin City is getting a third life on the small screen. It will be shepherded by writer Glen Mazzara (The Walking Dead) and director Len Wiseman (the Underworld series, and the terrible Total Recall remake). Make of that what you will.

A Little Defensive?

The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson has taken to Twitter to hit back at claims that his new Star Wars sequel might be derivative and recycle storylines from the other movies. It was a claim levelled at both The Force Awakens and Rogue One, and Johnson is eager to set fans straight.
