So Good News: Spider-man, Skyscraper, Saw

The world of movie news moves at lightspeed some days, so it’s hard to keep up with everything (even for those of us that run an entertainment website). So welcome to today’s news briefing here at So, Is It Any Good? where we round up the breaking stories you might have missed.

Marvel Morsels

Spoiler Alert! A full cast list for Spider-man: Homecoming has made it’s way online, revealing the characters that certain actors (*cough* Donald Glover *cough*) are playing, and some cameo appearances as well.

Still with Homecoming, and the bigwigs are already talking about a sequel before the film’s release, and which Marvel character will potentially cross over.

MCU architect Kevin Feige has revealed that Avengers: Infinity War/Avengers 4 will be the last go round for a couple of regulars. Start placing your bets now internet.

The recent Fantastic Four reboot disappointed on many fronts, but could a more kid-friendly second reboot be on the cards?

Casting Couch

Scream queen Neve Campbell has joined Dwayne Johnson in his big building actioner Skyscraper.

Jennifer Lopez is getting back into the romantic comedy game, with a role in Second Act from director Peter Segal (50 First Dates).

Fargo and The Leftovers standout Carrie Coon has joined the cast of Widows, a heist thriller from director Steve McQueen (12 Years A Slave)

Another cast member has joined the currently shooting Aquaman, this time it’s the appropriately named Michael Beach (Sons of Anarchy).

Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe have joined Joel Edgerton‘s next directorial effort, the gay conversion drama Boy Erased.

Tommy Lee Jones will star with Brad Pitt in James Grey‘s Ad Astra, a futuristic sci-fi epic.

Developing

The Conjuring universe continues to expand. On the heels of The Thin Man, a proper third sequel in the series has been announced.

A sequel to the modestly performing actioner The Accountant has been announced as well, with both returning star Ben Affleck and returning director Gavin O’Connor. The team behind the excellent Nightcrawler is reuniting for another movie at Netflix. Director Dan Gilroy will direct Jake Gyllenhaal and Rene Russo for a pic set in the art world.

This Just Got Interesting

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, new Paramount chief Jim Gianopulos flat out stated that David Fincher will be directing Brad Pitt in zombie sequel World War Z 2. This just jumped up my need to see list.

It’s All In The Name

The upcoming 8th (!!!) movie in the Saw franchise has had a name change, from Saw: Legacy to the much more interesting Jigsaw. We’ll have to wait until October to see what the change means for the story.
