The world of movie news moves at lightspeed some days, so it’s hard to keep up with everything (even for those of us that run an entertainment website). So welcome to today’s news briefing here at So, Is It Any Good? where we round up the breaking stories you might have missed.
Ryan Reynolds has teased the first image from the set of Deadpool 2, in front of an instantly recognisable movie location:

Dwayne Johnson has released some photos from the set of the video game adaptation Rampage. Giant monsters, mass destruction, and The Rock… what’s not to love?
Mission: Impossible 6 director Christopher McQuarrie has posted a boss new photo featuring the leading ladies of the spy sequel. Four badass women are exactly what the doctor ordered for this go round with the Impossible Mission Force!
Turns out Lightning McQueen was supposed to meet a certain Gotham City celebrity. In an early draft for Cars 3, a scene was planned where Lightning was to attend a party in the Hollywood Hills, where he would meet The Batmobile. You can read what director Brian Fee had to say about the cut scene here.
Richard Linklater has added to the already impressive cast of his next film, the comedy-drama Where’d You Go, Bernadette, adding hilarious character actress Judy Greer. No doubt she’ll be busy stealing scenes from her co-stars Cate Blanchett, Kristen Wiig, and Billy Crudup.
A detailed casting notice for the new characters (main and supporting) that might show up in X-Men: Dark Phoenix has made its way online. Let the fan theories run wild until the film goes into production for a planned November 2018 release.
Infinity And Beyond
Benedict Cumberbatch has reported for duty on the set of Avengers: Infinity War. Cumberbatch was announced in the cast when the 3rd and 4th movies were a two-parter of Infinity War, but when they were split isn’t wasn’t clear which characters would end up in which movie. He joins Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther) as a newcomer on the Atlanta set.
While we’re on Infinity War, Scarlett Johansson has spilt the beans on a scene involving 30+ Marvel characters in the epic team-up movie whilst on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert:
New pics from the set of the Justice League reshoots may hint at the inclusion of the Hall Of Justice in the movie. Joss Whedon directs the reshoots, taking over from director/DCEU architect Zack Snyder, who has taken leave to attend to a family tragedy.
Original Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow is once again singing the praises of J.A. Bayona’s dino-sequel. He seems to think a particular action scene in the middle is spectacular…
Kevin And Killroy
90’s stoner darling and all-around cool guy Kevin Smith is returning to the horror playground with his next film, the first instalment of a new anthology series, Killroy Was Here. Shooting has started in Florida, which fans of Tusk and Yoga Hosers will be pleased to know.
R-ooby R-ooby R-oo
In a lengthy post to celebrate the film’s 15th anniversary, Guardians Of The Galaxy director James Gunn has revealed that the original cut of the live-action Scooby-Doo was actually rated R. Now that I’d pay to see… the end result, not so much.
Director John G. Avildsen, who helmed the classics Rocky (winning the Oscar for Best Director) and the original Karate Kid trilogy, has died at the age of 81.
Animal House and St. Elsewhere actor Stephen Furst has passed away at age 63.
