So Good News: The Jetsons, Fantastic Beasts, Dark Phoenix

The world of movie news moves at lightspeed some days, so it’s hard to keep up with everything (even for those of us that run an entertainment website). So welcome to today’s news briefing here at So, Is It Any Good? where we round up the breaking stories you might have missed.

Jetsons series in the works

After years in development hell, something is finally happening with The Jetsons! No sign of Kanye West as costume designer though. According to Flickering Myths, Oscar winner Robert Zemeckis is bringing the future family to the screen in a live action TV series. Warner has also tapped Conrad Vernon of Sausage Party to create a new animated movie. Hopefully, it will not be as emotionally scarring as his previous feature.

Fantastic Beasts 2 found!

Fantastic Beasts has begun filming! Plot details have released and can be read at Variety. It appears Newt will be on the search for a different sort of beast, as Grindlewald has escaped. Johnny Depp will hopefully get more screen time alongside Eddie Redmayne and Jude Law who plays Albus Dumbledore.

Thanks to the fans?

Netflix has purged many programs recently, but none received as much support from fans as Sense8 with the groundswell of support leading to a final wrap-up. Lana Wachowski via Facebook gave the good news that Netflix has ordered a two-hour special. This proves that just sometimes the fans can win.

True Detective adds true talent

Oscar winner Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) is being considered for the lead of a rumoured new season of True Detective. After the previous season almost led to the cancellation, Ali would join the pantheon of A-grade talent to lead the show, like the unforgettable Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. Ali also has a role in the upcoming animated Spider-man movie  More details at The Hollywood Reporter.

Quicksilver returns in Dark Phoenix!

Evan Peters will return as Quicksilver in the upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix, where he will most likely upstage the cast once again. Since Days Of Future Past, the Quicksilver sequences have been a highlight with damn fine effects. Let’s hope he doesn’t meet a similar fate to last go round. Dark Phoenix is shaping up to be a monumental X-Men affair. More to be found at Empire.

A Rey of Hope

The force is strong with Star Wars: Forces of Destiny. Daisy Ridley will voice Rey in the episode “Sands of Jakku”. No one would complain about fleshing out Rey, and expanded universe Star Wars can be most impressive. More at The Hollywood Reporter.

It’s all about the music

James Gunn via Twitter has announced he is working on the music that will be in Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3. He is down to a measly 181 songs, and considering the prestige of being on Starlord AKA Chris Pratt‘s playlist, this could be huge. Volume 3 OST will definitely be joining everyone’s collection, no matter your opinion on the movie, the music Ragnarok-ed.
