Unbreakable – 3

So Good News: David Fincher, Divergent, M. Night Shyamalan

The world of movie news moves at light-speed some days, so it’s hard to keep up with everything. So welcome to today’s news briefing here at So, Is It Any Good? where we round up the breaking stories you might have missed.

David Fincher Delves Into The Mind Of A Killer

Netflix is set to release a new original series from creator Joe Penhall (The Road) with suspense-thriller guru David Fincher as executive producer, who will also be lending his directorial talents for the first two episodes.

Mindhunter will be unleashed in October and centers around Jonathan Groff’s (who played Kristoff in Frozen) FBI agent, Holden Ford (bad-ass name), who spends his days tracking down serial killers. And this time, it doesn’t look like he’s going to ‘Let it Go’…  (Sorry)

Starz To Develop Divergent Series

Vulture reported that Starz is on board to take Divergent to the small screen and pick up where the trilogy left off after the fourth movie, Ascendant, was ditched due to disappointing box office numbers. If they decided to do that with every franchise, we’d have a lot of cancelled shows on our hands.

No casting has been announced just yet, however, Shailene Woodley has already declined an offer to return to the franchise. It’s not like her to rebel…

Dark Tower Series Going Ahead

Talking about movies going to the small screen, The Dark Tower has barely hit cinemas but Sony has already confirmed that they are moving forward with a TV version. Former executive producer of The Walking Dead, Glen Mazarra, has been given the reigns to develop the show.

Unexpectedly, Idris Elba is still connected to star as The Gunslinger, but no other casting has been confirmed as yet.

Dave Bautista Is Heading For Valiant Comics

Hollywood big man, Dave Bautista, is heading for Valiant Comics to take on their live action adaption of Eternal Warrior.

The actor, who is better known for playing Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy, has been keeping himself busy lately filming for Avengers: Infinity War as well as a mystery role in Blade Runner 2049. Now Bautista leads the line up for Sony’s Valiant universe, which is already well underway with talks that Jared Leto will sign up to play Bloodshotin another solo movie from the same franchise. Fantastic news, one actor is responsible for producing an incredible incarnation of one of the world’s much loved comic book characters, and the other one is Jared Leto.

They Call Him Mr Glass

M. Night Shyamalan looks like he’s back to best with his hit movie last year, Split, starring James McAvoy. What seemed like a nice, little creepy chiller of a movie, turned out to be Shyamalan’s twist to end all twists when we discovered that (spoiler alert) the characters of Split exist in the same world as Shyamalan’s gritty, superhero flick, Unbreakable.

Now Samuel L. Jackson has revealed in an interview with Collider that the film is moving pretty quickly and they begin shooting in September for a 2019 release date, and is titled Glass. Bruce Willis, James McAvoy, and Anya Taylor-Joy are returning to their respective roles along with newcomer Sarah Paulson.  Although, with a 62-year-old Willis, I’m not sure how unbreakable he’ll be this time around.

Harry Potter Actor Robert Hardy Dies Age 91

Robert Hardy, better known for playing Cornelius Fudge in the Harry Potter franchise, sadly passed away at the age of 91.  Hardy was considered one of England’s most enduring character actors with a prolific career in television and film, including; The Spy Who Came in from the Cold (1965), Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (1994) and Sense and Sensibility (1995).  We salute you, sir.

And that’s it for this installment of So Good News. How stoked are you for the next edition of M. Night Shyamalan’s weird superhero franchise? Let us know in the comments and on our Facebook page. Make sure to stay tuned for more movie news, right here at So, Is It Any Good?
