So Good News: Clint Eastwood, The Emmy Awards, The Darkest Hour, Martin Scorsese

The world of movie news moves at light speed some days, so it’s hard to keep up with everything (even for those of us that run an entertainment website). So welcome to today’s news briefing here at So, Is It Any Good? where we round up the breaking stories you might have missed.

All Aboard!

Clint Eastwood has cast comedians Tony Hale and Thomas Lennon for his next biopic, based on a real life terrorist attack on a train The 15:17 to Paris. It’s certainly an odd choice for the actors better known for Veep and We’re the Millers, but not as odd as hiring the actual guys who were involved in the incident to play themselves; Anthony Sadler, Alek Skarlatos, and Spencer Stone.

Emmy Noms

Better Call Saul, Stranger Things, and Silicon Valley are just a few names in the running for an Emmy at the 69th Annual Awards. While Game Of Thrones sits this one out this time around, HBO makes up for it with Westworld scoring the most nominations next to Saturday Night Live.

War Of The Churchills

Not long after the release of Jonathan Teplitzky’s Churchill starring Brian Cox as the British Bulldog, Joe Wright gives us his version, Darkest Hour, with a heavily prosthetic-clad Gary Oldman. The difference between the two movies so far, the trailer for Darkest Hour gave me goosebumps…

Goodfellas Assemble!

Martin Scorsese’s highly anticipated Netflix Original, The Irishman,  just tagged two of Hollywood’s biggest gangster movie veterans, Joe Pesci and Harvey Keitel. Scorsese is set to start filming The Irishman next month and will star Robert DeNiro as true life mob hitman Frank ‘The Irishman’ Sheenan whose career included the murder of Jimmy Hoffa, who will be played by Al Pacino. Also to join the forever impressive cast are Boardwalk Empire’s Bobby Cannavale and Everybody Loves Raymond’s Ray Romano.

DiCaprio Has Murder In Mind

Speaking of Scorsese, he will be jumping straight back into the director’s chair to team up with Leonardo DiCaprio once again to shoot Killers of the Flower Moon next year. The movie is based on David Grann’s novel of the same name, subtitled The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI. It is reported that location scouting is already underway and Robert DeNiro is also in talks to star.
