So Good News: Deadpool 2, Jungle Cruise, mother!

The world of movie news moves at light-speed some days, so it’s hard to keep up with everything (even for those of us that run an entertainment website). So welcome to today’s news briefing here at So, Is It Any Good? where we round up the breaking stories you might have missed.

Knock Me Down Like A Domino

Ryan Reynolds has shared the first pic of co-star Zazie Beetz as mutant assassin Domino in Deadpool 2, and she looks badass! Check it out below:

Also on the subject of the Deadpool sequel, the creator of the character Rob Liefeld has likened the movie to Rush Hour in the mismatched buddy comedy stakes between Reynold’s Deadpool and Josh Brolin‘s Cable… which sounds promising.

The Man From Uncle (Ben)

One of the greatest teaser trailers has lead to one of the greatest fan theories. I don’t even know how to where to start, but could the old man in the Deadpool 2 teaser that was released along with Logan be linked to the Spider-man universe?

Reviews, What Reviews?

It’s the worst reviewed movie of the year, but The Emoji Movie is still killing it at the box office bringing in $25.6 million in its opening weekend, behind the second weekend of Dunkirk. It really makes you think about the critics vs the audience, why is there such a chasm between them?

Out Of The Squad, He’s Cruisin’ Instead

Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows, Non Stop) had been rumoured to be the front-runner for the Suicide Squad 2 directing gig, but it seems that would no longer be possible. Collet-Serra has signed on to direct Jungle Cruise with Dwayne Johnson instead. Probably not a bad switch if you ask me…

Seeing Double (Or More)

Netflix has released a new trailer for their Orphan Black-esque dystopian thriller What Happened To Monday, starring several Noomi Rapace(Rapaci?), Glenn Close, and Willem Dafoe. Looks like a ridiculous wild ride:

Float Like A Butterfly, Sting Like A Bumblebee

WWE megastar and Trainwreck standout John Cena has joined the cast of the Transformers spin-off Bumblebee joining the previously cast Hailee Steinfeld. No word yet on who Cena will be playing, but you can bet your ass You CAN See Him (ask a wrestling fan about the reference).

Throwing The (Rule) Book At Them

Turns out there might have just been a reason for the 11th hour firing of Phil Lord & Chris Miller from the Han Solo spin-off, to stop them retaining creative control in the edit suite. Screenrant has the rundown, and it just goes to show how crafty that Kathleen Kennedy really is.

Oh mother!

The first proper teaser for Darren Aronofsky‘s mother! has been released. Starring Jennifer LawrenceJavier BardemMichelle Pfeiffer, Ed Harris, Domhnall Gleeson, and Kristen Wiig, it’s been billed as a psychological horror-thriller about a couple’s lives who are upended by some surprise house guests. Looks like Aronofsky’s back in Black Swan territory, and that can only be a good thing.

And that’s it for this installment of So Good News. Looking forward to another round with Deadpool? Does mother! have you intrigued? Let us know in the comments and on our Facebook page. Make sure to stay tuned for more movie news, right here at So, Is It Any Good?
