Be sedated with the first trailer for ‘A Cure for Wellness’

Trippy. 20th Century Fox has dropped a trailer and poster for director Gore Verbinski‘s latest thriller – A Cure for Wellness. Based on the trailer, it’s nice to see Verbinski return to a smaller, moodier picture, after the epic scale of both The Lone Ranger and the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy.

Here’s the official synopsis:

An ambitious young executive is sent to retrieve his company’s CEO from an idyllic but mysterious “wellness center” at a remote location in the Swiss Alps. He soon suspects that the spa’s miraculous treatments are not what they seem. When he begins to unravel its terrifying secrets, his sanity is tested, as he finds himself diagnosed with the same curious illness that keeps all the guests here longing for the cure. From Gore Verbinski, the visionary director of THE RING, comes the new psychological thriller, A CURE FOR WELLNESS.

I’m really liking the art style of the film – the various ‘wellness’ machines rocking a steampunk style. I love that this trailer gives very little away about the film. It definitely seems to be more in line with Verbinski’s The Ring remake than his later work. Also great to see marketing teams haven’t gotten the memo that not all trailers are required to have a slow interpretation of a popular song, but points for using The Ramones.

Along with the trailer, Fox has also released a few viral videos for you to mediate too. Weird, but effective. Zen on everybody.

A Cure for Wellness stars Dean Dehaan, Jason Issacs and Mia Goth and hits theatres in February 2017.
