OUR FAVOURITE STAR WARS MOMENTS

With only 12 days until the Force Awakens, and nerds across the globe collectively lose their minds (us included), we thought we’d share our favourite moments from the Star Wars series to date. It’s absolutely a given that none of our favourite moments came from the prequels, so here’s our favourite moments from the original trilogy, those that really define our love for all things Jedi:

BEN – “BINARY SUNSET” – A NEW HOPE

Is there a more iconic image in all of Star Wars than this? John Williams’ swelling score, the look of longing on Luke’s face, it could be any kid in any small town…except for the unmistakable sight of two suns setting side by side.

I always get pins and needles watching this scene, and I think what makes it so great is that it says so much without actually featuring a single line of dialogue. Awww cheer up Luke, you’ll find your calling soon enough. Hell, you’ll even get to rescue a hot chick! Just maaaybe don’t go falling in love with her…Trust us on this alrght?

RYAN – STAR WARS

My favourite thing from Star Wars isn’t exactly any part of the film. I mean hell the entire original trilogy is a masterpiece,  it’s the adventure that came after the cinematic experience. I vividly remember as a punk kid fighting with friends on who gets to be our favourite Star Wars hero or villain today, then grabbing out plastic light sabres and battling it out to save the galaxy. We built cardboard sets and tried to own as many toys as possible.

Even now in my late 20’s after watching the original trilogy I’m still discovering new things to love, I should however stop buying merchandise. At this point I probably could of paid for my own Star Wars trilogy.

SHELL – “I AM YOUR FATHER” – THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK

It’s got to be that amazingly iconic (but so often misquoted!) moment where Darth Vader tells Luke that he didn’t kill his father as Obi Wan had always told him. **Spoiler alert** Darth Vader is Luke’s father. C’mon! Luke’s enemy is his father?!? Genius! While the quote that has made it into Star Wars canon is “Luke, I am your father”, the actual scene goes a little like this:

Vader: Obi-Wan never told you what happened to your father.
Luke: He told me enough! He told me YOU killed him.
Vader: No, I am your father.
Luke: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO *cry face*

Luke’s face here is amazeballs. ALL THE FEELS!! Give that man an Oscar.

NICK – “LET THE WOOKIE WIN… A MEDAL” – A NEW HOPE

I was watching the end of ‘A New Hope’ with my kids for their very first time and my eldest son turned to me and said:

“How come the bear didn’t get a medal daddy, he did just as much work as everyone else?”

After a lecture on the fundamental differences between a Bear and a Wookie, I ultimately felt proud.

My son had noticed something on his first watch, that I had overlooked on countless viewings.

SCOTT – “I LOVE YOU.”,  “I KNOW.”  – THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK

Han Solo is a cocky son of bitch. Even on the precipice of potential death, he’s still a ladykiller. This (unscripted!) moment between Han and Leia in the Carbon Freezing chamber is (to me) the ultimate Han Solo moment. I love this sequence – the score, the lighting, the staging, even that slight smirk as he’s lowered into the pit.

Han, you old smoothy.

JARED – HAN SHOOTS FIRST – A NEW HOPE

The moment that became a lightning rod for controversy when Lucas changed the edit, it’s a perfect 1 min 15 sec distillation of the character of Han Solo. The cocky swagger in the way he sits, the smooth talking that’s going to get him in (and out) of much more trouble as the trilogy progresses, and the ice cold way he drops Greedo and apologises to the bartender on the way out. Luke might be the protagonist of Star Wars, but Han is definitely the star of the show.
