With the impending release of Spider-man: Homecoming, the world is about to get another iteration of the web-slinger, and nothing announces a superhero quite like an epic theme. It’s an understatement to say that the genre has exploded over the last two decades, and with that has come some outstanding musical scores. So it felt like the perfect time to do another edition of Movie Mixtape, and gather together the best Superhero themes.
For the purposes of this list, I’ve stuck with strictly musical scores so there’ll be no pop/rock/otherwise tracks in sight. All the usual suspects are here, plus some more left-field choices, but the one thing they have in common is the ability to hit exactly the right emotional chord (pun intended). You’ll also see a lot of familiar composers on the list, it seems that the studios keep going back to the same guys (I wonder why). There’s no ranking system in play, these were just the 10 themes that connected most with us. They’re rousing, grand, and unmistakably heroic. What more could you ask for really?
