Find Out The Story Behind Movie Posters in the Trailer for ’24×36′

24x36The title of the movie is a reference to the size of most modern day movie posters. To help clarify, I’ll use the full title of this documentary ’24×36: A Movie About Film Posters’. Originally created by Filmmaker Kevin Burke as a Kickstarter passion project, it’s now on touring the festival circuit. The film is a study into the creation, almost extinction and resurrection of illustrated movie posters. Judging by the cast it looks like he’s managed to pull some star power with artist Roger Kastel (Jaws and Empire Strikes Back) and director Joe Dante (Gremlins).  I have a real love of movie poster and I’m keen to see what sort of a story they’re going to tell with this doco.  Here’s how they describe the movie:

“A documentary exploring the world of movie poster art, past and present, the artists who create it and the fans who collect it.”

I hate to think how long it would have taken for them to design a poster for a film about movie posters.  They even hired 5 artists to collaborate on the image below to make sure they nailed it.  Check out some of the cool poster art in our Art of Movies feature here and keep an eye out at the festivals for this one.
