Living off a revived career M. Night Shyamalan and Universal have unleashed the first trailer to the suspense thriller Split, starring James McAvoy, Betty Buckley and Ayna Taylor
Here is the official synopsis
While the mental divisions of those with dissociative identity disorder have long fascinated and eluded science, it is believed that some can also manifest unique physical attributes for each personality, a cognitive and physiological prism within a single being.
Though Kevin (James McAvoy) has evidenced 23 personalities to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher (Betty Buckley), there remains one still submerged who is set to materialize and dominate all the others. Compelled to abduct three teenage girls led by the willful, observant Casey (Anya Taylor-Joy, The Witch), Kevin reaches a war for survival among all of those contained within him—as well as everyone around him—as the walls between his compartments shatter apart.
Honestly, I don’t know what to think. pardon the pun but my mind is split on how this will turn out. Parts of the trailer look very disturbing and suspenseful but when James McEvoy is pulling faces and imitating voices I couldn’t help but giggle. I just don’t think McEvoy has the depth in his acting to pull off multiple identities.
Part of me still wants M Night Shyamalan to get back to the heights of career like he was with his first 3 films. But something just seems a little off. The style and tone of the film is there, let’s see how this one pans out.
SPLIT opens in Australian cinemas on January 19, 2017
