It’s that age old story, as soon as the cool kids find somewhere to hang, everyone else follows suit.

Following the amazing news last week that Thor: Ragnarok and the Alien sequel/prequel are planning to shoot in Oz, now comes word that the King Kong origins story Kong: Skull Island will be shooting in Queensland as well. Looks like that trip that politicians made to the US to stump for our local industry well and truly paid off!

Says Queensland’s Premier, and Minister for the Arts, Annastacia Palaszczuk: “I met with Legendary Pictures in Los Angeles in June and am thrilled they have chosen to film in Queensland,” Palaszczuk said. “Securing Kong: Skull Island demonstrates the momentum we are building to ensure Queensland is a destination of choice for major producers and international studios. This past year, Disney’s Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales shot in Queensland at the Village Roadshow Studios where Skull Island will also land.”

The story (supposedly) will fully immerse audiences in the mysterious and dangerous home of the iconic ape as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the treacherous, primordial island. It’s also rumoured that this film is set in the same universe as Godzilla, which would set up the Godzilla vs. Kong movie announced a little while back nicely.

Tom Hiddleston — who’s also in Thor — stars in Skull Island with Samuel L Jackson, Brie Larson, and John Goodman. Jordan Vogt-Roberts is directing from a script by John Gatins (Flight),

KONG: SKULL ISLAND is set for release in March 2017.
