JJ Abrams Reveals More About Rey’s Parents

Probably the biggest question that fans had after Star Wars: The Force Awakens finally hit was… who the hell are Rey’s parents? Theories ranged from the obvious, Luke or Leia, to the outlandish, Supreme Leader Snoke or Kylo Ren (!), but the one thing that united everyone was a need to know.

Well, speaking at a Q&A at the Tribeca Film Festival, JJ Abrams has given us probably the biggest clue yet as to who her parents might be, by revealing who they aren’t:

“Rey’s parents are not in Episode VII. So I can’t possibly say in this moment who they are. But I will say it is something that Rey thinks about, too.”

Talk about slashing down a number of theories at once! The pool of possible contenders has been whittled down considerably, and that’s even if it is someone that we’ve met in previous Star Wars tales. qtixd9qatau9ztdzsbrxPreviously Abrams had been very vague about the subject, saying of Rey’s parents:

“I know quite a bit. Obviously it’s not for me to talk about in this moment because this is [Episode VIII director] Rian [Johnson]’s story to continue now,” Abrams continued. “The last thing I’m going to do is reveal something that he would be upset about. I want to make sure that Rian gets the courtesy that he showed me.”

It’s assumed that the subject will be addressed in the currently filming Episode VIII, but fans might have to wait until the concluding chapter of the trilogy to ultimately get closure.

Now that you know who it isn’t, who do you think are Rey’s Mum and Dad? Let us know your theories in the comments below!
