Marvel’s IRON FIST – TV Review

“I have no idea what an Iron Fist is, sounds like a sex toy”

This line from Iron Fist perfectly sums up this series, why? Because Marvel and Netflix just fu#@ed everyone by making it.

So, is it any good?Iron Fist follows Danny Rand played by Finn Jones, coming back to New York City to do something, what that something is? I don’t know, I don’t think anyone knows.

Episode 1 starts off with Danny trying to convince his former childhood friends Joy Meachum (Jessica Stroup) and Ward Meachum (Tom Pelphrey) that he is back from the dead after a plane crash 15 years earlier in the Himalayas.  Honestly, that’s all you need to know because that’s all that happened in the FIRST… FOUR… EPISODES.

I turned this off after 6 episodes. Where did it all go wrong? Well, I’ll tell you.

Firstly, Iron Fist should have been 2 seasons, with six episodes each. Season One should have been the origin and character development season. Season Two should have been all about Danny kicking butt as the Iron Fist. Instead, we get one season of badly paced crap and choppy flashbacks.

The boredom is strong with this one.

Secondly, For some reason, Marvel/Netflix decided it would be a good idea to have RZA, yes you read that correctly, RZA, the rapper, direct episode 6 of the season. It was 53 minutes of excruciating crap that was so unbearable to watch that I turned it off.

Iron Fist has it all, Bad writing, bad dialogue, bad fight choreography and bad directing which in turn leads to, in my opinion, bad acting.

Not to mention that the only time the “Iron Fist” was used was on objects. This is supposed to be someone who has a nuclear weapon for a fist but instead uses it to destroy the following: A wall, brass knuckles, a hatchet, a cargo container door, an axe, oh wait, he did hit someone in the chest with it, he fell down and lived.

So how can Marvel/Netflix come back from this?

Yes, that’s right, The Defenders.

Daredevil had a winning formula that made it the best Marvel/Netflix series to date. That formula has a name, Drew Goddard. Drew Goddard was an executive producer and a writer on all 26 episodes of Daredevil and he should have been more involved with Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and especially Iron Fist.

Drew is currently one of the writers on Deadpool 2 and has also previously written The Martian, World War Z, Cabin In The Woods and Cloverfield, just to name a few. He is currently the executive producer on all 8 episodes of The Defenders. So here’s hoping he can bring back some of the magic that has been lost over the past few years with Marvel/Netflix.

No release date has yet been set for The Defenders or The Punisher, only that they will both be released sometime in 2017.

Iron Fist also stars David Wenham, Carrie – Anne Moss,  Rosario Dawson and Jessica Henwick.
