HAN SOLO WILL FLY SOLO IN A NEW STAR WARS SPIN OFF FILM

After a 2 year long rumour of a Han Solo, solo film being in the works Hollywood Reporter has broken the news first of the film being official.

Directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord famous for the 21 Jump St franchise and The Lego Movie have taken the reigns of the a new Star Wars Anthology film based on the early years of Han Solo. This new film should not be confused with the one that was being directed by Josh Trank after he unceremoniously left that project earlier this year. though not official Tranks film was rumoured to be the origin story of Bounty Hunter Boba Fett. That project is still on the search for a director (My hand is really high up in the air).

Chris Miller and Phil Lord on getting to work on a Star Wars film

“This is the first film we’ve worked on that seems like a good idea to begin with. We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us. This is a dream come true for us. And not the kind of dream where you’re late for work and all your clothes are made of pudding, but the kind of dream where you get to make a film with some of the greatest characters ever, in a film franchise you’ve loved since before you can remember having dreams at all.”

While this news might not have meant to broke until SDCC (San Deigo Comic Con), representitives of LucasFilm have now had the chance to unleash a foray of quotes about the film. Kathleen Kennedy on why she is excited to work with the directing duo

“It’s not just any filmmaker who can tell the story of such a beloved icon like Han Solo, and I’m excited to say we’ve found the perfect team to handle the task. Larry and Jon know all there is to know about the character, and Chris and Phil will bring their wit, style, energy and heart to tell Han’s story.”

Producers Lawrence Kasdan and Jake Kasdan had this to say

“We’re so excited to be working with Chris and Phil, who will bring a fresh new dimension to the Star Wars universe,” said the Kasdans. “They’re two of the smartest, funniest and most original filmmakers around, and the ideal choice to tell the story of Han Solo, one of the coolest characters in the galaxy.”

The question now is, who will captain the Millennium Falcon and play the new younger Han Solo? Our first guess would be Chris Pratt, he is already in with the directors, being that he played Emmett the lead in The Lego Movie. He is doing great things with the Jurassic Park franchise for Kathleen Kennedy, but is it too many franchises too soon? Could this be the nail in the coffin? I mean he is already rumoured for Indiana Jones and Han’s character is very similar to his Star Lord Character.

So who else is there? You could go down the young Harrison Ford lookalike route and cast Anthony Ingruber, he’s already proven that he can kill it as Harrison in The Age of Adaline, or do you cast someone who is a great actor and has the charm and cast Miles Teller. He’s funny and good with the ladies and would work great in the Star Wars franchise.

The casting of Han Solo is anyone’s guess, however more will be revealed at SDCC this weekend at the Star Wars Panel
