So Good News – Justice League, Avengers 4, Hellboy

The world of movie news moves at light-speed some days, so it’s hard to keep up with everything. So welcome to today’s news briefing here at So, Is It Any Good? where we round up the breaking stories you might have missed.

Hellboy

Fans of Mike Mignola‘s demon spawn have plenty to be excited about with the announcement of the Beurau for Paranormal Research and Defense, or B.P.R.D for short set to join the film according to Cinemablend. Those familiar with the original Hellboy movies will recognise the name and characters like Abe Sapien and Elizabeth Sherman. The current roster is yet to be announced. Mignola has also hinted at the interest in a spinoff film focusing on the adventures of the BPRD outside of Hellboy.

Originally titled Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, the film has been renamed to simply Hellboy. Despite the change, we have learnt that Milla Jovovich of Resident Evil fame will be playing the villainous Blood Queen in the film. She joins Ian McShane and David Harbour as the main cast members. Time to dust off those old Dark Horse comics and familiarise yourself with Hellboy lore once more.

Avengers 4

For those who have been living under a rock, Avengers: Infinity War is being hyped as the beginning of the end of Marvel’s cinematic universe as we know it. Well with Infinity War due for release in April 2018, directors the Russo Brothers are already directing part two of the end in Avengers 4. What better way to tantalise the audience than with an oninous teaser announcing the start of filming. Released via Facebook, the picture simply features a glove with the title, “beginning the end”.

While there is no context the image, the glove could resemble that of Captain America and is in the position of showing 4 fingers referencing the film. Whatever the meaning behind the film, expect a post credits scene at the end of Infinity War to start the hype machine.

Ad Astra

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Donald Sutherland is joining Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones and Ruth Negga in the upcoming sci fi adventure epic.

The film, directed by James Grey in development with New Regency, 20th Century Fox and Bona Film Group is described as one mans space adventure across a perilous solar system to find his missing father, who is a renegade scientist posing a threat to all mankind. Little else is known about the film so far, but with such big name actors being attached to the project, this will certainly be a film to keep an eye on.

Justice League

Rumours were running rampant regarding Justice League reshoots so close to the films release. It is no surprise that the reshoots occurred with the ever awesome Joss Whedon taking over directing duties from Zack Snyder. In an interview with IGN, Joe Morton who plays Silas Stone, aka Cyborg’s dad, gave some insight into some of the reshoots. Unsurprisingly, the studio is putting pressure on the creative process to lighten the tone of the film as it was considered too dark according to Morton. Morton focused specifically on the tonal change for Cyborg as being one of the focus for the reshoots.

Here is what Morton had to say:

“Well, the stuff that I had to do were just really small little bits and pieces, nothing necessarily having to do with tone. I know that with Ray [Fisher], the young man who plays Victor, there were some adjustments that they made in terms of the tone of that character. I think what I heard was that there was a need from the studio to lighten up the film in a way, that the film felt too dark. I don’t know what that meant in terms of how it actually got translated in terms of the reshoots but that’s what I heard. That’s what I thought some of the reshoots were about”

Judge Dredd

While fans of Karl Urban‘s Dredd movie in 2012 won’t be seeing a sequel in cinemas, there is even better news as the television series is well into development. The first concept art from the series has been released by IGN showcasing various aspects of Dredd‘s sprawling metropolis, Mega City One. Drawn by artist Jack Eaves, the concept art definitely shows the seedy underbelly of the Mega City as well as the hustle and bustle of Dredd’s world.mega-city-one-1

Lowlife Arrival

Fans are still clamouring for Urban to reprise his role as the titular character, with talks happening between executives and Urban to return as the badass super cop.

And that’s it for this installment of So Good News. What do you think the glove means for Avengers 4? Does the Justice League movie need a tonal change? Let us know in the comments and on our Facebook page. Make sure to stay tuned for more movie news, right here at So, Is It Any Good?
