The world of movie news moves at light-speed some days, so it’s hard to keep up with everything. So welcome to today’s news briefing here at So, Is It Any Good? where we round up the breaking stories you might have missed.


Martin Scorsese Doing Standalone Joker Film

According to Deadline, the legendary Martin Scorsese will be a producer on a standalone Joker film. Todd Phillips the director of Road Trip, Old School and The Hangover films will be directing the standalone Joker film. Scott Silver is also on board as films writer, he has writing credits on the films 8 Mile and The Fighter.

So far news seems to indicate the idea is to make an origins films for The Joker that stand on its own, separate to the current films in the DCEU. The description of the film sets it in Gotham during the 1980’s and will be a grounded, gritty and hard boiled crime film. The film will aim to look more like Scorsese’s earlier works such as The Raging Bull and Taxi Driver.


Queen Biopic ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ Cast Grows

It’s been known for a while now that a Queen biopic has been in the works with Rami Malek from Mr. Robot playing the iconic Freddie Mercury. Earlier this week on Monday it was announced that actors Ben Hardy, Joseph Mazzello and Gwilym Lee have joined the cast to play the other members of Queen. Bohemian Rhapsody is being directed by Bryan Singer.


Equalizer Sequel Casts VillainPedro Pascal Smoking

Antoine Fuqua is returning to the helm to direct a sequel to the 2014 Denzel Washington film The Equalizer. On Monday this week news hit that Pedro Pascal from Netflix’s Narcos and Game Of Thrones will play the villain in the film. With an actor as solid as Denzel Washington playing the lead, it’s always good news to hear that equally awesome talent has been cast to play the bad guy. Deadline also reports that Bill Pullman and Melissa Leo have signed on to reprise their roles in the sequel.


Deadpool 2 Cast ExpandsEddie Marsan Tea

Eddie Marsan from the The World’s End, and most recently Atomic Blonde, has been added to the cast of Deadpool 2. At the moment there is no details as to who Marsan will be playing in the film, so it will be interesting to see the role he tackles in the much anticipated sequel.


Avengers 4 Photos Confirms The Return Of A Cast MemberGwyneth paltrow Robert Downey Jr Avengers 4

Yesterday set photos from The Avengers 4 hit twitter showing Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts on the set. The last appearance of Tony Stark’s wife Pepper was in this year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, prior to that Pepper had not been seen since Shane Black’s Iron Man 3 back in 2013. There is no details as to what the return of Pepper indicates for the MCU, but fans are already speculating.
