So Good News: The Incredibles 2, Creed 2, Ghostbusters

The world of movie news moves at light speed some days, so it’s hard to keep up with everything (even for those of us that run an entertainment website). So welcome to today’s news briefing here at So, Is It Any Good? where we round up the breaking stories you might have missed.

The Incredibles 2

Disney Pixar’s studio head John Lasseter recently stated in an interview with IGN that the upcoming The Incredibles 2 will kick off where the last film finished:

“It starts right as the first one finishes, so it just carries on,” Lasseter said, adding that only “a minute” will have passed between the first and second Incredibles. “It starts with the Underminer and a big old set piece. You know that at the end of the first movie when he comes up and you see the family dressed as superheroes, well that’s where start this movie.”

It will be interesting to see what happened to The Incredibles following the first film.

Our Favorite Cold War Villain Returns

I’m a Rocky fan from way back, I use to watch Rocky 1 – 5 a lot growing up, being able to quote the first four films word for word, Creed 2 is being penned by Sylvester Stallone and he recently announced through his Instagram:

“Just done….if you are curious , around 439 handwritten pages translates into about a 120 page typed screenplay …#writers cramp #rockybalboa #drago #adoniscreed #MGM”

One of those hashtags says #Drago, referring to Ivan Drago played by Dolph Lundgren from Rocky VI. Is Stallone strongly hinting at a return for everyone’s favorite boxing villain to the series? I hope so, maybe we can also see Paulie’s 80’s robot also return.

Ghostbusters Sequel May Include Digital Ramis

We’ve seen Jeff Bridges made youthful again in Tron: Legacy, a youthful Robert Downey Jr in Captain America: Civil War, and we’ve also seen late Hollywood stars brought back to life such as Peter Cushing and Carrie Fisher in Rogue One. Well, it appears the sequel to Ghostbusters may get a CGI Harold Ramis.

Ivan Reitman, creator of the original Ghostbusters films was asked by an audience member at the San Diego Comic-Con asked if CG might be used to recreate the original casts, Reitman responded:

“It’s possible… it’s something we’re thinking of. [Audience ‘Oooohs’]. HINT. [Laughs]”

I don’t know where I stand on recreating actors from the past, personally, I think perhaps leave Ghostbusters in the 80’s with the originals and move on. They will always be classics.

Harley Quinn vs. Joker

I’m going to be honest, I really don’t care about this, I feel like I should preface this bit of news by making it clear that I absolutely give zero shits about it. Warner Bros. wants to launch an additional film in the DCEU that will focus on Harley Quinn and The Joker, played by Margot Robbie and Jared Leto, which would be a spin-off from Suicide Squad.

From the information from Screen Rant, apparently DC Entertainment President and CCO Geoff Johns will be the producer.
Seriously, the worst part about the DCEU, in my opinion, is that these iterations of the villains are the ones that we are stuck with.

Alien Franchise Uncertainty

The future of the Alien franchise is uncertain as Fox seeks to reassess the viability of Ridley Scott’s sequel ideas to Alien: Covenant. Scott’s latest addition to both the Alien franchise and prequel spin-off Prometheus didn’t see great box office success, that isn’t to say that Alien: Covenant was not successful, Alien: Covenant cost $97 million and made back  $232 million, it was just a significant drop in comparison to the $403 million that Prometheus earned, which is fairly significant loss of interest in the franchise.

Nothing is confirmed yet, but it does appear the franchise’s future is unclear at this point in time.
