So Good News: Deadpool 2, Daniel Craig, Thor: Ragnarok

The world of movie news moves at light-speed some days, so it’s hard to keep up with everything. So welcome to today’s news briefing here at So, Is It Any Good? where we round up the breaking stories you might have missed.

Tragic Accident

Deadpool 2 immediately halted production on Monday when a stunt driver, Joi “SJ” Harris, was killed in a motorcycle accident. Harris was acting as the double for Zazie Beets, who plays the mutant mercenary Domino in Deadpool 2, when she lost control of her motorcycle during a stunt and crashed on the Vancouver set of the film, Deadline reports. Ryan Reynolds posted this on twitter in response to the tragedy:

Halting The Mission

Speaking of accidents, it seems as though Tom Cruise‘s accident on the set of Mission: Impossible 6 was worse than previously thought. Cruise is fine but has a broken ankle, amongst other injuries, and will be out of commission for 9 weeks. Production could be halted for as long as 3 months according to Variety, although director Christopher McQuarrie sat down with Empire to talk about what went wrong, and why it might actually have a silver lining:

You simply rearrange the order in which you were going to do certain things on the movie. This, in fact, gives us an opportunity to go into editorial and look at what we’ve shot and reassess the movie, which is a luxury you don’t normally have because you’re on a train that just doesn’t stop.”

The Batman We Know And Love

Ben Affleck has spoken to EW about his role in the upcoming Justice League, and Batman purists will likely be happy:

“[T]his is a much more traditional Batman. He’s heroic. He does things in his own way, but he wants to save people, help people … This is more in keeping with the canon of how Batman’s usually been portrayed, and how he’s portrayed vis a vis the Justice League in the comics. This is more the Batman you would find if you opened up your average Batman comic book … not that it’s average. I think it’s a really cool story.”

Speaking of Afflecks, the younger version, Casey, recently sent internet nerds into a frenzy when he announced on a sports radio show that Ben wouldn’t be in The Batman, before quickly taking it back:

Craig, Daniel Craig

We recently reported that Daniel Craig would be returning for James Bond 25, but in the following weeks, the actor has played coy, saying we’ll have to wait and see. However, he just went on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and confirmed that he’ll be back as 007.

“I have been quite cagey about it. I have been doing interviews all day and people have been asking me and I think I’ve been rather coy. But kind of felt like if I was going to speak the truth I should speak truth to you,” Craig told Colbert. Craig added that he sees Bond 25 as his final outing. “I think this is it. I just want to go out on a high note and I can’t wait.”James-Bond-Daniel-Craig

Fighting Back

Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts has hit back at a recent video by YouTube channel Cinema Sins, which he obviously took a bit of umbrage with. While it’s easy to tell Vogt-Roberts not to get riled up about what a couple of people put in a YouTube video, it has opened up the debate as to what constitutes film criticism, what’s just a cheap shot.

As for the video, you can judge for yourself as to whether it’s too harsh:

The Doctor Is In

A Japanese trailer for the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok has made its way online, and it shows us the first glimpse of Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange.
