So Good News: It Box Office Floats To New Heights, Insidious 4 Trailer Debut

Welcome to another edition of So Good News, the one-stop shop for all your latest movie news, all in one place. In an industry where today’s big stories will be tomorrow’s distant memories, we serve you everything fresh to your plate.

IT Smash

Ever since the teaser trailer smashed records earlier in the year, Stephen King’s IT has been a safe bet to be a sturdy box-office performer. Recently though, thanks to social media tracking, forecasts have shot through the roof and talk about records being broken was rife. Well, all that talk has paid off as IT bowed to a mammoth $13.5 million on Thursday night and looks set to swallow up over $100 million over the weekend. This is truly phenomenal considering the stench smell of the summer box-office still lingers so prominently with so many movies under-performing.

Insidious: The Last Key Trailer

Released just in time to ride off the coattails of IT, Blumhouse Productions have unleashed the trailer for the 4th chapter of the Insidious franchise. Series stalwart Lin Shaye reprises her role as Elise in a story revolving around the haunting of – wait for it – her own home. Say what you will about these films and diminishing returns, there is so much talent involved in each of them it remains stellar horror. Javier Botet is among the cast as well to guarantee some creepy contortionist effects.

Murder On The Orient Express

Receiving, if I do say so myself, an absolutely badass new poster is Kenneth Branagh‘s Murder On The Orient Express. The Agatha Christie adaptation circles around a murder investigation on a train as the title of the movie handily suggests. Empire have also scored a scored a brand-new image of Hercule Poirot also played by Branagh, sporting his interpretation of the detective’s famous mustache. I will almost certainly be dragged to the cinema by my other half for this one, so I shall be perfecting my own ‘stache in the build-up to the film’s release in November.

47 Meters Down Descends Further Into Hell… By Another Meter

47 Meters Down was actually a big hit this past summer. Drawing in $44million off a $5million budget is cause for breaking the champagne out – and of course in Hollywood it’s also reason to release a sequel. I haven’t seen the shark thriller yet (it’s on my to-do-list) but colour me interested for this sequel already. Anything with sharks is awesome, right? The Hollywood Reporter also reveals original director Johannes Roberts is set to return as writer/director for the follow up, tentatively titled 48 Meters Down (rolls eyes).
