So Good News: Bond, Dunkirk and Charlie Sheen’s 9/11

The world of movie news moves at light-speed some days, so it’s hard to keep up with everything (even for those of us that run an entertainment website). So welcome to today’s news briefing here at So, Is It Any Good? where we round up the breaking stories you might have missed.

Daniel Craig Back For Bond 25

Despite saying he was done with the franchise, Daniel Craig is all but confirmed to return to the Bond franchise for Bond 25 in 2019. No word yet on a director, or a title, or a plot, but at least we know who’ll be wearing the tuxedo.

Dunkirk And The French

Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk is an incredible, unconventional war film that certainly needs to be seen, but not everyone is praising it like we are. A French journalist called the film out for not representing the French soldiers present at Dunkirk who held the line against the Germans. Sadly not every side of a war can be shown in the film, and journalist Max Hastings hit back in defense of Dunkirk.

“The French will have to make their own film if they want their national story properly told.”

Charlie Sheen 9/11 Movie Slammed

People are absolutely slamming the trailer for 9/11, starring Charlie Sheen and Whoopi Goldberg. Not only is this trailer completely tasteless, it looks poorly made as well. Sheen has been an outspoken advocate for “9/11 was an inside job” – making his appearance in this film all the more puzzling. It is set for release 8 September. Check out the trailer:

Nicholas Hoult Eyed For Tolkien Biopic

Nicholas Hoult is the frontrunner to play Lord of the Rings author J.R.R. Tolkien in a biopic. Set to be directed by Finnish director Dome Karukoski, the film will cover Tolkien’s life prior to World War I and subsequent inspiration for the sprawling epic novel.

Leto In Talks For Bloodshot

In case you missed it, Sony is trying their hand at another ‘cinematic universe’, this time focused on Valiant Comics. Jared Leto is in talks to star as the title character in a Bloodshot film. It’s certainly going to be a more subdued performance than the one we got in Suicide Squad if this pans out.

And that’s it for this installment of So Good News. What are your thoughts on these tidbits? Should Craig come back for another Bond? Do we need another cinematic universe? Let us know in the comments and on our Facebook page. Make sure to stay tuned for more movie news, right here at So, Is It Any Good?
