So Good News: The Batman, The Joker, Bad Boys For Life

Welcome to another edition of So Good News, the one-stop shop for all your latest movie news, all in one place. In an industry where today’s big stories will be tomorrow’s distant memories, we serve you everything fresh to your plate.

Holy Standalone Batman!

The director of The Batman, Matt Reeves, has stated in an interview with KCRW that it will be a standalone movie and not a part of the current DCEU. Reeves said, ‘Well, I have a vision for a way to do something with that character that feels like it resonates with me personally, and the perspective that can grow into other things. When they [Warner Bros.] approached me, what they said was ‘look, it’s a standalone, it’s not part of the extended universe.’’

Reeves made headlines recently by completely scrapping Ben Affleck’s script and starting again when he was hired for the movie. What this means for the future of Batfleck in the DCEU is yet to be seen. But we could see Warner Bros. scrapping the whole thing altogether.

You’ve Got to be Joking?

Only days after a gritty, standalone The Joker origin story had been announced with The Hangover director Todd Phillips and movie guru Martin Scorsese producing, another Joker and Harley Quinn movie is in the works with Jared Leto and Margot Robbie in talks to reprise their roles.

According to THR, Glenn Ficarra and John Requa have been hired to helm the project which is said to be ‘an insane and twisted love story… When Harry Met Sally on Benzedrine.’

It is expected that Leto and Robbie will return for Suicide Squad 2 which is currently in development. They haven’t attached a director as yet but rumour has it Jaume Collet-Sera is in talks to helm the project.

Aha!

Steve Coogan’s hilarious alter-ego, Alan Partridge, will be returning to the BBC for a 25th anniversary special. Co-creator Armando Iannucci confirmed that Coogan will return for a one hour special at the end of the year, followed by a full series to be shown on BBC One in 2018.

Will Ferrell is a 100 Year Old Man

Will Ferrell will star in a new adaption of Jonas Jonasson’s comic novel The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out The Window And Disappeared. The story follows Allan (Ferrell) who escapes from a nursing home and, as he meets different people, we discover that he’s lived an incredible life.

Ferrell will bring in his Gary Sanchez team to re-adapt the novel which has originally been made to film by Swedish director Felix Herngren in 2013.

Bad Boys, Bad Boys, What You Gonna Do? Nothing

Martin Lawrence has dropped a huge bomb for Marcus Burnett and Mike Laaaoowry fans after he expressed serious doubts about the upcoming Bad Boys sequel, Bad Boys For Life. We have been teased another movie for some time now and it eventually looked like it was actually going to happen with both Lawrence and Will Smith eager to return. However, Lawrence recently said in an interview, ‘I don’t think we’re going to get one, not the way everything’s turning out… Will is off doing another movie (Guy Ritchie’s Aladdin) and I don’t think it’s going to happen.’

Well… Way to end the news on a real low.
