So Good News: Baby Driver, Top Gun 2, District 9

The world of movie news moves at lightspeed some days, so it’s hard to keep up with everything (even for those of us that run an entertainment blog). So welcome to your daily news briefing here at So, Is It Any Good? where we round up the breaking stories you might have missed.

This Baby Rocks

The complete soundtrack listing to the highly anticipated (especially by me) Sony/TriStar film Baby Driver has been released, and it’s huge and amazingly varied. Man, I cannot wait to see what Edgar Wright has dreamed up!

Casting Couch

Baywatch baddie Priyanka Chopra is angling to suit up in Joss Whedon‘s version of Batgirl. It’d be a nice change of pace and add some welcome multiculturalism to the DCEU.Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki (Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, The Great Gatsby) has been added to the cast of Luc Besson’s Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets…. a month before it’s release. Strange, but it’s apparently just a voiceover role, so I’m not sure how much it’ll impact the film.

Another day, another New Mutants casting. Actress Blu Moon has joined this time as Danielle Moonstar, a Native American who “has the power to create illusions drawn from the fears and desires of a person’s mind”. Sweet!

That’s A Wrap

Unbelievably, director Terry Gilliam has finally finished his long-in-the-works passion project The Man Who Killed Don QuixoteThe film took 20 years of stops and starts, so famously captured in the documentary Lost In La Mancha.

Shane Black’s new version of The Predator has also wrapped filming. Now we just have to endure the long wait until August 3, 2018 to see what he has in store.

Back For More

Fresh off the critical and commercial success (a $100.5 million dollar opening weekend) of Wonder Woman, it has been announced that the director is signed on for a sequel. Well, duh! When you find a good thing, hold onto it Warner Bros!

Fresh off the surprise announcement of Top Gun 2Tom Cruise has given more tidbits about the long awaited sequel. Apparently, the official title will be Top Gun: Maverick and have the same “tone and score as the original”. Tone I get, but score? Are we in for another 80’s-tastic soundtrack? Fingers crossed!Neil Blomkamp has expressed an interest in doing a sequel to his breakthrough debut District 9Having not quite reached the heights of his Oscar-nominated sci-fi pic with subsequent efforts, it’s not all that surprising that he wants to return to the well.

Clashing Schedules

Director Doug Liman has blamed scheduling for him dropping out of both Justice League Dark and Gambit. Citing his commitment to Chaos Walking and Edge Of Tomorrow 2 (or Live, Die, Repeat and Repeat), he seems really bummed about the whole thing.

Marketing Nightmare

Chloe Grace Moretz has taken issue with the marketing for her new animated film Red Shoes & The 7 Dwarfs, after there was a bit of an outcry over the first marketing posters. Nothing like fat-shaming an animated character to get the families in the door. Check it out:
