What’s In A Name?

Once again, some early merchandising has given us key character details, and this time an eagle eyed Star Wars: The Last Jedi fan (Twitter user UgurB_M) has translated the Aurebesh (a unique language to the Star Wars universe) phrase on D.J.’s hat. In English, it reads “Don’t Join”, but what that refers to is anyone’s (and everyone’s) guess. Let the fan theories commence!Star-Wars-The-Last-Jedi-DJ-Funko-Pop

Spike’s On Nightwatch

Sony is forging ahead with its plans for the extended Spider-Man universe, without Spidey himself. Next on the dance card is an adaptation of Nightwatch, which the studio is eyeing as a potential vehicle for Spike Lee to direct. This is all conjecture at this point, and Lee isn’t known for wanting to play in the blockbuster sandbox, but a studio can dream can’t they?Nightwatch-Spider-Man-Marvel

Damn Dirty Award-Hopeful Apes

Hot on the heels of Wonder Woman angling for some Oscar love, Fox has announced its plans for a big awards push for its damn dirty threequel War For The Planet Of The Apes. With unanimous critical acclaim and healthy box office returns, could the Apes have a shot at a Best Picture nom? It’s been an uphill battle for blockbusters to get recognition from the stuffy Academy outside of technical categories, but maybe the tide is turning…

Sony In Crow Business

Sony is doubling down on long-gestating projects, even after their mixed fortunes with The Dark Tower. They’ve acquired the rights to The Crow reboot that is set to star Jason Momoapresumably soon ending the drought of new Crow films since 1996.Crow-Reboot-Jason-Momoa

Han’s Got A New Friend

Director Ron Howard has tweeted out a new addition to the still untitled Han Solo movie:

Missing The Point?

In news that will make English professors around the world go “what the fuck?”, Warner Bros is inexplicably mounting an all-female version of the classic novel The Lord Of The Flies, written and directed by two men, Scott McGehee and David Siegel. Side-stepping the idea that an actress will jump at the chance to play a character called “Piggy”, the whole point of William Goulding’s Flies (if I’m remembering my Year 10 English) is that it is making a statement on the toxicity of masculinity, I just don’t see how that’ll translate in a “faithful adaptation”.lordoftheflies

Credit Where Credit’s Due

It turns out that Joss Whedon’s work on the upcoming Justice League won’t go without credit after all. Whedon will now be getting a writing credit on the film, in addition to the original writers Zack Snyder and Chris Terrio. Snyder will retain his directing credit as well.

Must Watch

Collider has premiered the first of three “in-world” Blade Runner short films that fill in the gaps between the original movie and the upcoming Blade Runner 2049. This one focuses on Jared Leto’s Niander Wallace. They’ll no doubt prove to be essential viewing for fans and those eager to understand the new film fully.
