From Furiosa To Furious – Charlize Theron Signs On For Fast 8

In a move that more than cements her action movie bonafides, Oscar winner and Mad Max: Fury Road standout Charlize Theron has signed on for the franchise that won’t die – and in fact keeps going from strength to strength – signing on to play a role in Fast 8.

After kicking all sorts of ass in Fury Road and literally eating the scenery in The Huntsman: Winter’s War, I’m glad to see Theron’s not slowing down any time soon. She sits very nicely in the action movie landscape, and with Angelina Jolie taking a sabatical to make dreary melodramas with her husband, there’s definitely a new niche for her to fill.TMFO-Charlize-Theron-4-thumb-630x268-55460This news had been circling for months and now the deal is done, with a post on the film’s Facebook page stating: “Our crew will face its greatest adversary ever in our next film as we welcome Charlize Theron to the Fast family.” Theron joins returning cast members Vin DieselDwayne Johnson, Tyrese GibsonLudacrisMichelle Rodriguez, and Jason Statham. Fellow franchise newbie F. Gary Gray is taking over the reins from Furious 7 director James Wan, and will be directing from a screenplay by Chris Morgan. Theron and Gray have previously worked together on another car-centric actioner, 2003’s remake of The Italian Job, which kick-started her forays into the genre and was a solid little flick.

Fast 8 brings the franchise to one of America’s most gridlocked cities, New York –  cue chase scenes that criss-cross Central Park. 100% that will happen at some point. The production was also recently spotted in Iceland, and will move on to Atlanta later this summer. Kristofer-Hivju-as-Tormund-in-Game-of-ThronesIn other casting news, TheWrap reports that Game Of Thrones wildling Kristofer Hivju has also joined the cast playing the super vague character of a “henchman”. Presumably he’ll be given more to do than just stand around and be menacing, but we’ll have to wait and see.

FAST 8 drives into theatres in April, 2017.
