It’s been more than four years since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt 2 hit our screens and more than two years since J.K Rowling officially announced that she was making her screen-writing début but today we FINALLY got our first look at the upcoming Harry Potter prequel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Muggles of the world, rejoice!

The new movie is the first in a trilogy inspired by the Hogwarts textbook of the same name. Eddie Redmayne steps into the role of the textbook’s author, Newt Scamander, with Katherine Waterston as Porpentina “Tina” Goldstein, Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein and Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski.

Though little is known about the plot line of the film, we do know that it is set in 1920s New York and is rumoured to include an American Wizarding School, which may be the Salem Witches Institute introduced in 2005’s Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. According to the Harry Potter Wikia however, the school is for adult witches only so only time will tell if that rumour is true! While technically not a prequel, J.K. Rowling is quick to say that it is an extension of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, set 70 years before the beginning of Harry’s story.

Entertainment Weekly was lucky enough to get the first look at the new film, with their cover featuring Newt Scamander outside the front of the Magical Congress of the United States of America (MACUSA), which is of course, the US’s version of the Ministry of Magic. With shots like these, we definitely can’t be the only ones hanging out for the trailer!
