Tatum And Gordon-Levitt To Make Sweet Music Together

Two well-known song and dance men, Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitthave decided to join forces for an R-rated musical romp that is sure to make ladies across the world swoon in anticipation. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Tatum and Gordon-Levitt are set to co-star in the as-yet-untitled musical project for Universal, described as “a musical comedy featuring two pilots on a misadventure.”

Both actors have shown they aren’t scared to dance and sing in on screen before. Gordon-Levitt performed a show-stopping dance number in (500) Days of Summer and has sung live on his TV show, Hitrecord on TV!.

Meanwhile, Tatum made his name by busting a move in Step Up and Magic Mike, and in a couple of weeks Aussie will get to see him take his talents to another level with the Coen Bros’ homage to 1950s Hollywood, Hail, Caesar!. For that film he learned to tap dance and sang on camera for the first time to perform one of the movie’s standout sequences, a Gene Kelly-style musical.

The two fellas are no stranger to working together either, previously starring in 2005’s Havoc, 2008’s Stop-Loss, and 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra together. More recently, and in what would seem to be a precursor to this news, they were eyed for an updated version of Guys And Dolls which never came together.

Michael Bacall, best known for his work on Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and 21 Jump Street, will write the script from an idea he conceived with Gordon-Levitt. The songs will be written by Broadway powerhouses Stephen Schwartz (Wicked) and Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Beauty & the Beast, Aladdin), so you’ll know they’ll be catchy as hell. No director is attached thus far, but you may as well start speculating now, as you know it’ll start happening soon. Personally I don’t mind a good musical every so often, and I’m intrigued by what an R-rated musical comedy would look like, especially involving these two guys.
