Behind The Scenes – Dunkirk

Dunkirk is in theatres across the nation tomorrow. I haven’t had the opportunity yet, but I am seriously excited to see this film. Christopher Nolan has made some ridiculously good films and all the early buzz from reviewers like us at So Is It Any Good? and everywhere else are saying it is absolutely brilliant, some even going as far to say it is Nolan’s best film to date.

If you are a bit of a cinema geek like myself, I think you may enjoy this little 4 minute behind the scenes featurette. Released by IMAX‘s Youtube channel, it shows how Nolan and cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema managed to shoot Dunkirk on the gigantic 70mm large format IMAX cameras:

I really got a kick out of watching this featurette, it reminded me of the opening of The Aviator, showing how obsessed Howard Hughes was with capturing the flying scenes for Hell’s Angels.

Another featurette on Dunkirk was released by Warner Bros’ Youtube channel, it’s a round table discussion with the actors, they discuss how it is easy to act when everything around them is real and not CGI and how they’re just reacting to Christopher Nolan’s immersive and real vision:

Excited for the film? Once you’ve seen it head to our Facebook page and let us know what you thought!
