Behind The Scenes – Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets

Luc Besson has been wanting to make this adaptation of French comic strip Valerian And Laureline for 40 odd years, and only now has movie-making technology caught up to what was in his head. With today’s release of Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets, we’ve found some behind the scenes goodies to get you primed for your intergalactic adventure.

First up is an overall look at the making of the movie, and what it took for Besson to bring it to the big screen:

Next is a deeper dive by The Film Theorists into how the aliens in Valerian were all made distinctive in a movie with literally thousands of different species:

Valerian is obviously a passion project for Besson, and you can see it in every interview that he gives. The next two videos are interviews he has done on the publicity trail for the movie, and are a great insight into both how he got this movie made, and also his wider philosophies on movie making in general (beware though, they’re quite long, so you may want to set aside a good hour!):

I think you’re as primed as you’re ever gonna get for Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets! Are you looking forward to Luc Besson’s space opera? Once you’ve seen the movie, head to our Facebook page and let us know if you thought it was any good!
