Suprise!
Looks like J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot are up to their old tricks! Completely out of the blue, a trailer has dropped for a potential sequel or spinoff of 2008’s Cloverfield – that that nobody knew was in development! Check it out below:
Directed by relative newcomer Dan Trachtenberg and produced by J.J. Abrams, 10 Cloverfield Lane stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim vs the World) and John Gallagher Jr (HBO’s The Newsroom) seemingly being kept in an underground bunker by John Goodman.
When asked by Collider about the film, J.J. Abrams responded:
“The idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible.”
How this relates to Cloverfield (if at all) is yet to be seen – could the characters be living in the bunker post the creature attack? Could the film just be titled Cloverfield as a way of linking an anthology set of films? Either way, I love that this has come completely out of nowhere! This is an amazing win for the Bad Robot mystery box!
10 Cloverfield Lane is in theatres March 11th!
Bonus Feature
I love Michael Giacchino, and whilst Cloverfield didn’t have any original score, Giacchino wrote an ‘overture’ for the film that plays over the credits. It’s not a well known piece of score, but it is a personal favourite!
