We’ve been slowly drip fed information and images about Lionsgate’s big screen reboot of the popular nineties kids franchise Power Rangers for some time. Now we have our first proper glimpse of what we can expect from the forthcoming film with a freshly dropped teaser trailer.

When I first heard they were rebooting Power Rangers, I immediately presumed the studio would be giving it the Transformers treatment. However watching this new teaser, I got more of a Chronicle vibe, and its pretty clear the studio is strongly targeting the YA-crowd with this one. Angsty teens, gritty tone, you’d almost be forgiven for thinking this was a new Twilight film. Whats clearly absent from this trailer is a funny bone, understandable given the epic levels of silliness the original series was known for, but lets hope further trailers give at least a hint of tongue in cheek humour.
After all, you don’t get an actor like Bryan Cranston to play a character called Zordon and not let him have a little fun with it!
Power Rangers will be released in Australian cinemas on March 23, 2017
