Disney and Lucasfilm have just dropped the first trailer for the eagerly anticipated Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Set just before A New Hope, Rogue One tells the story of how the Rebels stole the plans to the Death Star and stars Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Ben Mendelsohn and Forest Whitaker.

It’s great to finally have some idea of where this film is headed. I feel like Rogue One has been kept in Hanger 51 since its announcement, and like looking at the Ark of the Covenant, my face has just been melted off from the sheer scale of it. We’ve never seen the strength of the Rebels in full force before, other then the award ceremony scene in A New Hope, so it’s great to see a battle of this magnitude and seeing those bloody AT-AT’s means I’m feeling a little excited in the pants right now!
Gareth Evans, director of Monsters and the recent Godzilla reboot, is at the helm of this entry in the Star Wars franchise. He has definitely gone for a different tone for the film, it’s more modern with a hint of the original trilogy for flavour.
We have heard the rumours about Darth Vader returning in this anthology film but there is no sign of him in this trailer. I would say they are holding out for the final trailer, or the finished film.
